Man killed after being hit by car as massive police scene blocks road

A man was knocked down and killed in a crash in Tuebrook as police continue to block off the road where it happened.

Emergency services were called to Lisburn Lane shortly before 7pm to reports a pedestrian had be hit by a Ford Fiesta.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was rushed to hospital with severe injuries but died a short time later.

A large police scene was put in place around the area of the tragic crash as officers issued an appeal for witnesses.

The man has not yet been formally identified and police are working to inform his next of kin.

According to officers, the driver of the Ford Fiesta stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Pictures taken at the scene show a cordon in place on Lisburn Lane and a number of police vehicles parked around the area.

Roads policing officers could also be seen working inside the cordon as pictures of the crash site were captured by forensics.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We’re appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Tuebrook this evening, Tuesday, 1 December.

"Shortly before 7pm, officers were called to Lisburn Lane following reports of a collision involving a Ford Fiesta and a pedestrian.

"Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

"The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.

"Officers are working to formally identify the man and inform his next of kin.

"Road closures remain in place and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to come forward."

Chief Inspector Col Rooney said: “Tragically a man has lost his life following a road traffic collision in Tuebrook this evening, and an investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances.
