Man kicked police officer after staggering out of an Arnold pub

A man must pay £383 for kicking a police officer after turning aggressive when drunk on Arnold High Street.

Problems began when onlookers saw Michael Shephard "staggering down the street," Nottingham magistrates heard.

Peter Quinn, prosecuting, went on: "He semi-fell and steadied himself by gripping hold of a windscreen wiper on a car. The wiper broke.

"There were several concerned members of the public and they called the police. Mr Shephard was not just in an intoxicated state but increasingly aggressive.

"He kept saying that he did nothing wrong. Officers tried to calm him down," said Mr Quinn.

At that point, Shephard kicked out and caught one officer on the left shin. It left a red mark which was still there a few hours later.

A £266 fine with £117 costs were ordered from Shephard, 34, a refuse lorry driver of Acton Road, Arnold. He admitted the common assault of an emergency worker on September 29.

Sarah Roberts, mitigating, said that Shephard did not usually get into trouble, adding: "It seems to be a blip.

"He was at the pub and was hit by the fresh air when he left. It seems to have gone straight to his head."
