Man kicked hole in Asda toilet door and climbed through in bid to escape security

A serial criminal who kicked a hole through a toilet door in a supermarket in a desperate bid to escape security has been jailed.

Damon Dalby, 36, of Castleford Avenue, Grimsby, admitted using threatening behaviour and damaging a toilet and cubicle, reported Grimsby Live .

Martin Howarth, prosecuting, told Grimsby Magistrates' Court Dalby was stopped by a security guard when trying to enter an Asda on March 31.

But he ran to the toilets in the store and locked himself inside the toilet cubicle and shouted to the guard that he was going to climb through the roof.

There was a loud bang and he kicked out the bottom part of a toilet door and climbed through a hole in an attempt to escape, the court has heard.

The guards took hold of Dalby to stop him fleeing. Dalby can be heard shouting: "I'm going to come back and get you."

He also allegedly said he had a knife and moved his arm as if grasping something in his pocket.

But he was soon pinned to the floor until the police arrived.

Ernie Lidster, mitigating, said Dalby accepted he made a threat to the guard but denied having a knife.

He had a bad criminal record and had been jailed on his most recent court appearance.

He was released from prison on March 15, it is reported.

Mr Lidster said: "Since his release from prison, he hasn't been able to obtain any legitimate income but he is trying to sort out his benefit."

Dalby admitted stealing five joints of beef, valued at £54, from Asda in Grimsby on March 24 and stealing seven packs of bacon, valued at £13,93, from Today's Local at Cleethorpes on March 25.

He asked for eight other offences, including theft, to be considered and was jailed for 12 weeks.
