Man jailed over sawn-off shotguns has walked out of prison - he might be in Manchester

Police are searching for a man jailed for possessing an arsenal of weapons who has walked out of prison - and could be in Manchester.

Yasir Nassir, 47, was sentenced to seven years in 2017 after police caught him with two sawn-off shotguns under the seat of his car in Birmingham city centre.

Firearms officers pulled over the Citroen C3 that Nassir was driving at 5am and searched the car following a tip-off, BirminghamLive reported at the time .

West Midlands Police said further searches of Nassir’s home in Walsall uncovered an arsenal of weapons, including another shotgun, a silencer, two air rifles, pellets and blank 6mm cartridges.

Nassir admitted possessing firearms and was jailed for seven years but has now absconded from Sudbury open prison, Derbyshire Police said in a Facebook post.

He is described as Asian, 6ft tall and of large build.

He has black hair, brown eyes and usually has a beard.

It is understood that Nassir has links to Manchester, the West Midlands and Cardiff.

Derbyshire Police added: "If you have seen him or know of his whereabouts, please do not approach him, instead contact us immediately quoting reference number 1036 of 22 December."
