Man jailed for stealing parcel from a Kilmarnock church

A man who stole a package from a Kilmarnock church has been sent to prison.

Robert McPheators, 39, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court where he admitted stealing a parcel from outside the premises of St Joseph’s Church on Hill Street on Sunday, June 9.

The parcel, which contained a phone case, was recovered after McPheators was spotted on CCTV throwing it on a roof.

The court heard McPheators had rang the bell of the church door which was answered by the priest.

McPheators asked for money for a bus home and was provided with £9 in cash.

He returned again in the afternoon and was provided with £10, but was then seen acting suspiciously near to the jackets and handbags.

McPheators was escorted from the building but came back at 5pm where he was seen on CCTV banging on the doors all around the church.

He then entered the rear of the church where he picked up an Amazon package, opened it and then threw it on the garage roof.

Sheriff Shirley Foran sentenced McPheators to 14 weeks in prison.
