Man jailed for sexually assaulting child on train

  • Abdulmanon Aliev, a 50-year-old man from Tajikistan residing in Peckham , south-east London , has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a vulnerable girl on a train .
  • The incident took place on 16 June last year on a train from Southend to London, where Aliev followed the girl, blocked her in, and subjected her to a prolonged sexual assault before she managed to escape at London Fenchurch Street.
  • British Transport Police arrested Aliev 11 days later in Peckham after he was identified by plain-clothes officers, subsequently searching his home and seizing clothing relevant to the assault.
  • In April, Aliev was found guilty of attempted rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and three counts of sexual assault following a thorough investigation.
  • Sentenced at Inner London Crown Court, he received a 12-year jail term with an additional two years on licence and will be a registered sex offender for life, with British Transport Police commending the victim's courage.
