Man jailed for ignoring bail and terrifying woman he was told not to approach

A Coatbridge man who flouted the conditions of his bail has ended up behind bars.

Marc Harrison, of Corsewall Street, appeared in the dock at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week after admitting to disregarding the court’s demands.

The 46-year-old had been released on bail in February – with strict instructions not to enter the town’s Aitkenhead Road or to approach a specific woman.

On May 28 though, he ignored those instructions and entered the woman’s property before attempting to spit on a police constable when they arrived at the scene.

Then last month, Harrison again returned to the street and behaved in a threatening and abusive manner, causing fear and alarm and acting aggressively while shouting and swearing.

He also banged the door of the property while uttering offensive remarks.

Defence solicitor Mark Lutton said: “There’s a significant gap in his offending over the last decade but alcohol dependency is his problem.

“It’s not an excuse but an explanation for why he has not behaved. He’s been in custody since June 18.”

Addressing Harrison, Sheriff Petra Collins said: “You’ve reached a stage where I have no alternative.

“I’ll sentence you to four and six months separately on the matters and they will run consecutively.

“You’ll be jailed for 10 months in total which I’ve backdated to June 18 when you were taken into custody.”
