Man jailed for having a craft knife at a food bank

A man has been jailed for 148 days after being caught with a craft knife at a food bank.

Mark Rose, of Ilkeston Road, Nottingham, visited Grace Church Nottingham at the Ministry in Castle Boulevard with a friend at 11am on October 28.

Officers said he was waiting outside when he was approached by a member of security staff, who said she had been told he was carrying a knife.

He denied having a weapon on him but, when searched, had the craft knife in his jacket pocket.

The 39-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article. He admitted the offence and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, December 20.

PC Charles Willett, who led the investigation, said: "While Rose did not take the knife out of his pocket, it is still an offence to carry a knife in public.

"This case should act as a warning to anyone thinking of carrying weapons that we will seek to put them before the court if we catch them in possession of weapons, regardless of whether they are used."
