Man jailed for five years after raping partner in Maryhill flat

A sex attacker who raped his terrified partner has been jailed for five years.

Mark Thomson (41) told his victim: “You are mine. You will do what I say.”

The woman eventually managed to escape his clutches and bravely reported her ordeal to police.

Thomson was today sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.

He had earlier been convicted of the rape, which occurred at a flat in the city's Maryhill in 2017.

A judge heard how Thomson continues to protest his innocence.

Lady Stacey ordered he also be monitored for a further two years on his release.

In his earlier speech to jurors, prosecutor Bernard Ablett told how the victim had been left “screaming and crying” at what happened.

But, Thomson – who also physically violent to the woman – ordered her to shut up.

He fell asleep after the incident – and then acted “as if everything was OK” the next morning.

Lady Stacey told him: “You have been convicted of a serious charge of assault and rape.

“I understand that you maintain your denial – that is a position you are entitled to take.”
