Man jailed for five-hour assault of ex

A man has been jailed by a Brisbane court for physically and sexually assaulting his ex-partner. (AAP)

A man with a history of domestic violence has been jailed for seven years after gaining entry to his ex-partner's apartment, and physically and sexually assaulting her for about five hours.

A domestic violence order had been served on the 31-year-old, who isn't named to protect his victim's identity, three weeks prior to the attack in March 2020, the Brisbane District Court was told on Wednesday.

The most serious injuries included a stab wound to the leg, a brain bleed and bruising to the face, and the abuse was both physical and sexual, prosecutor Matthew Hynes told the court.

The man gained entry via an unlocked sliding door, refused to leave and used the stupefying drug Seroquel during the prolonged attack.

When the victim made a noise, he said that he would stab her if she tried to get the attention of police or neighbours.

Eventually she was able to flee from her own home and call police from a nearby bus stop after the pair fell asleep and she woke up first.

He was violent toward police officers when they arrived at the apartment and was "clearly" intoxicated.

In the days before the attack the man had made repeated contact in defiance of the protection order, and through his actions "forced" the woman to give him her car.

After he failed to return it, she reported it stolen.

The man's history of domestic abuse included physical violence and threatening to kill an ex-partner, the court was told.

His lawyer agreed he had a "relevant and troubling history" and said he had untreated ADHD and learning difficulties, and had been using ice.

Judge John Coker sentenced the man to seven years in jail with parole eligibility after serving one third.

He will be eligible for release in July 2022, two years and four months since he was taken into custody.
