Man jailed for breaking into pensioner's house in Aspley and stealing from his bedroom as he slept

A man has been jailed for burgling the home of a pensioner while he slept.

Mark Martindale, 37, of Thatcham Close, Bobbers Mill, pleaded guilty following the burglary in Nottingham.

The incident happened at Aspley Lane, Aspley, in the early hours of Sunday, March 17, 2019.

Martindale has been jailed for four years and two months after entering a late guilty plea at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, October 1.

He entered the home of a man in his 80s and stole his wallet and bank cards from his bedroom as he slept.

Enquiries revealed that the contactless bank card was used in several premises near to the home later that day.

The card was used at a number of stores including McDonalds, where CCTV showed his distinctive tattoos on his hands.

From the 22 transactions used by the stolen card, 13 transactions were caught on CCTV footage.

Detective Constable Colin Kirkup of the City Burglary Team said: "We are pleased with the sentence and we hope this gives some closure to the vulnerable victim.

"I'd like to thank and praise the victim for his bravery throughout the investigation."
