A MAN who sexually abused children in Moray for over a decade has been jailed for 10 years.
Jonathan Hopson was sentenced at the High Court in Dundee on Wednesday after he was found guilty following a trial in May.
The 45-year-old committed the offences, including rape and sexual assault, against two young girls in the Elgin area between 2008 and 2023.
Along with his 10-year jail sentence, Hopson was handed a three-year extension on licence, given a non-harassment order and was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Detective Constable Fiona Roberston described Hopson as a “manipulative and predatory” individual, adding that his “despicable behaviour has caused significant harm”.
She said: “He will now face the consequences of his actions, and I hope this outcome provides some degree of closure to the girls he abused and their loved ones.
“We remain committed to investigating reports of child abuse and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
“We would encourage anyone who has experienced or is aware of abuse to please report it.
“Every report is taken seriously and will be fully investigated, no matter how much time has passed, with support from our specially trained officers and partner agencies.”
