Man jailed and handed three-year roads ban after driving while disqualified and over the limit

Banned driver David Deverill was jailed after narrowly missing a vehicle in a car park and then stopping in a disabled people's parking bay outside McDonald's.

It was the second time he had been driving while disqualified and led to a three-year ban when he faced city magistrates. He got a 20-week prison sentence.

The incident took place at 2pm on Saturday, December 28, when 33-year-old Deverill was at the wheel of a Nissan Qashqai in Hucknall , said Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting.

When arrested, he gave a sample of 50 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, 15 over the legal limit.

Mr Jerath told the court: "He narrowly missed colliding with a vehicle and then the defendant parked in the disabled bay at McDonald's."

In January, a suspended prison term had been imposed on Deverill, whose address was given on the court list as Pool Close, Pinxton.

In September, he had been driving while disqualified on Nottingham Road, Mansfield Road and in a car park.

As well as admitting the drink drive offence, he pleaded guilty to two counts of driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

Rob Keeble, mitigating, told the three magistrates: "David Deverill takes a realistic view of it."

But he said the first incident took place when he rushed an injured child to King's Mill Hospital.

This might have been enough for him to be excused a ban but he drove the child home after its mother defied medical advice and refused to allow it to stay in hospital.

And on Saturday, he drove to Hucknall after hearing that a teenage girl was being bullied.

Mr Keeble added: "He fully complied with the roadside breath-test and was taken to the Bridewell, where he co-operated with the breath-test procedure."
