Man jailed after walking through lenton with screwdriver up his sleeve

A man has been jailed after police found him walking around Lenton with a concealed screwdriver.

Gavin Hall, 45, caught the attention of officers from Radford Road Police Station, who were out enforcing Covid-19 rules at the time.

The officers spotted Hall walking along Ilkeston Road near to Seely Road in Lenton on Wednesday, October 28 at around 10pm.

In a post on Facebook, they said: "The man appeared to be paying attention to parked vehicles and doing his best to appear inconspicuous as other members of the public passed him by."

After the officers stopped to speak to the man, they said they were unhappy with his explanation of a "late night stroll", so carried out a stop search, suspecting he may have prohibited items.

Hall, of Forster Street in Nottingham, was found to have concealed in his jacket sleeve a screwdriver.

The police added: "Satisfied that Hall was not intent on committing acts of public spirited DIY, we arrested him on suspicion of going equipped to steal.

"Detention authorised by the custody Sergeant, Hall was remanded to appear before the City Magistrates the following day.

"Found guilty of the offence Hall was sentenced to 8 weeks custody and fines of £128."
