Man jailed after threatening man with metal pipe in Downend pub

A Bristol man has been jailed after going in to a pub with an offensive weapon and using it to threaten a man.

John Ayres, 42, of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon - a metal pipe - and using it to threaten a man at the Horseshoe pub in Downend on December 13.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing alcohol to the value of £17.50 from Sainsbury's in Downend on the same day.

Those two convictions triggered a suspended prison sentence given on December 2 for a range of offences during 2019, including threatening behaviour and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Orders.

On December 2, he had been given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, but he had committed further offences just 11 days later. He was jailed for 20 weeks for the incident in the pub, and four weeks for the theft.
