Man jailed after threatening couple in their Wishaw home with a knife

A thug who threatened a man and a woman at knife point in their Gowkthrapple home has been jailed for nearly two years.

Kyle Kerr and an unknown accomplice brandished blades as they demanded money and tobacco.

Kerr, 27, a prisoner, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted assaulting the couple with intent to rob them at their home in Birkshaw Tower on April 30.

Passing sentence, Sheriff David Bicket told Kerr: “This offence is aggravated by it taking place in the victims’ house.

“It involved brandishing knives and you have previous convictions involving knives. You have a significant record but I accept that the majority of your offending was some time ago.”

The sheriff reduced the sentence from 30 months to 22 months because of Kerr’s early guilty plea.

It was backdated to May 2 as he has been in custody since then.
