Man jailed after stealing laptop from district nurse who was visiting patients

A man from Aspley has been sentenced to jailtime after pleading guilty to stealing a nurse's laptop and bank cards from her car.

Gareth Gilson, 37, of Minver Crescent in Aspley pleaded guilty to theft and fraud after appearing at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday morning (April 3).

Officers were called to the area of Wootton Close, Bilborough on Tuesday, March 31 after a district nurse visiting patients had returned to her car to find its window had been smashed.

A bag, containing the nurse's bank cards and a laptop, had been taken from the car and while officers were at the scene, her cards were found to have been used in several shops in the NG8 area.

Gilson was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison.

PC Bailey and PC George, who took the lead in this case, said: "A lot of work went in to supporting the victim and locating multiple CCTV cameras in order to identify the suspect.

"Targeting frontline workers, especially in times like these is completely unacceptable and will be taken seriously by Nottinghamshire Police."
