Man jailed after stealing cash and till from garden centre

A man who stole cash and a till from a garden centre in Ashton-under-Lyne has been jailed.

Anthony Baguley, 37, has been locked up for 14 months after pleading guilty to burglary.

His co-defendant Alex Cuthbert, 36, was handed a four month sentence suspended for 18 months after pleading guilty to the same offence.

In a post on the GMP Tameside Facebook page, PC Martin Jones said the pair were involved in a burglary at a garden centre in Ashton on June 27.

They went into the garden centre and stole the till and its contents.

Both suspects made off from the scene but Cuthbert was quickly apprehended, PC Jones said.

Officers then attended at the garden centre and reviewed the CCTV footage.

Baguley was identified as the second male and was arrested hours later.

At Minshull Street Crown Court, Baguley, of Oldham Road, Failsworth, was jailed for 14 months and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £156.

Cuthbert, of Waddicor Avenue, Ashton, appeared at Stockport Magistrates Court and was sentenced to four months suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay compensation of £600.
