Man jailed after 'sickening' rape and assault in Mansfield leaves woman with bleed on brain

A man has been jailed for 12 years after raping and assaulting a woman in Mansfield who was left with injuries including a bleed on the brain. Robert Taylor was given the sentence when appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday (March 29).

The 49-year-old's victim managed to flee the attack at an address in Mansfield and was taken to hospital. Her other injuries included fractured ribs and a severely bruised face.

As well as repeatedly raping her, Taylor threatened the woman at knifepoint. Alongside serving 12 years in custody, Taylor was given an extended licence period of four years and was added to the Sex Offender's Register.

He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for life. Detective Inspector Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police's Public Protection department, said: "This survivor was subjected to what can only be described as violent, sickening, and savage treatment by Taylor who left her with severe injuries in the street.

"I'd like to commend her for her bravery shown throughout our investigation and I hope today’s result brings her some closure." Nottinghamshire Police has a rape and sexual assault reporting tool on its website, where offences can be reported.

Victims can speak about what has happened to them to police, or to someone else. This can be reported anonymously, without people giving any details.

Rape Crisis England & Wales also have a 24/7 hotline. The Nottinghamshire Police website contains a full list of organisations who can help.
