Man jailed after shouting abuse at young child and breaking court order

A Crosshouse man has been jailed after shouting abuse at a young child and breaking a court order.

Richard O’Neill, 43, admitted behaving in an abusive manner on August 3 by uttering offensive remarks towards the boy and then following him.

He also pleaded guilty to contacting two people he was banned from communicating with on May 17 by phoning them.

O’Neill, of Gatehead Road, appeared back before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday to be sentenced.

The prosecutor also asked for a non-harassment order – protecting the child – to be put in place for six months.

Passing sentence, Sheriff Michael Hanlon said: “Considering the convictions before me and the circumstances of bail and the very nasty nature of the offence, there is no alternative to a custodial sentence.”

O’Neill was sent to jail for 24 weeks and handed a non-harassment order for six months.
