Man jailed after Horden stabbing which left victim with multiple head injuries

A man has been jailed following a stabbing which left the victim with multiple wounds to the head.

Gavin Jackson, 34, was handed a 24-month prison sentence after admitting affray and grievous bodily harm at Durham Crown Court on Monday.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance at an address on Third Street, Horden, County Durham, at around 2am on January 14.

Officers attended and found the victim on the floor with multiple wounds to his head.

Armed officers found Jackson on a nearby street and arrested him using a taser after he refused to follow instructions.

The victim was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough and was treated for his injuries.

Jackson, of no fixed abode, was taken into custody and charged.

Detective Constable Benjamin Cloke, from Peterlee CID, said: “This type of violent behaviour cannot and will not be tolerated by the people of County Durham and Darlington and we will always seek to bring violent offenders to justice with the support of our communities.”
