Man jailed after getting his mum to make him a sandwich

A 33-year-old man has been jailed after getting his mum to make him a sandwich.

David McGowan was banned from contacting his mother after a court issued a restraining order and a suspended prison sentence for stalking her, reports ChronicleLive.

But McGowan called police to say he was going to his mum's house then called her to ask for a sandwich.

Police turned up at his mum's house, where his mum had made the snack, and arrested him.

McGowan has been jailed for seven months.

McGowan was given a five-month suspended prison sentence and a seven-year restraining order on October 22 last year for stalking his mum.

He had made 50 calls to her in ten hours and sent text threats in a dispute over money.

Despite the ban he went for a sandwich on November 29.

But on November 29, while police were looking for him for something else, he rang them saying he was going to his mum's.

John Crawford, prosecuting, said: "He was drunk but there were no other issues and she did give him a sandwich."

Judge Tim Gittins said: "It was relatively minor in the scheme of things but that has to be seen in the context of the circumstances which led to the restraining order being made.

"It's yet another incident causing your mother concern because of how worn down she was by your behaviour."

McGowan was warned that the restraining order not to contact his mum remains in place until October 2028.

Richard Bloomfield, defending, said: "It's a rather stupid breach.

"He went to his mother's to have a sandwich before he was arrested."
