The culprit, described as white, short dark hair, wearing a long-sleeved back top, light blue jeans and white trainers, fled the scene.

Police in Lancashire have described the injury as 'very serious' and have today (December 29) released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

PC Matt Lyons, of East Police, said: “This incident resulted in a man suffering a very serious injury and I would appeal to anyone whop recognises the man in the image, or who has any information which could assist, to come forward and speak to us.”

Anyone with information should contact 6713@lancashire.police.uk using the log reference 1492 of December 4, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
