Man is attacked and robbed in Ayrshire street

Ross Pettigrew, 21, and Gavin Paxton, 41, repeatedly punched Mathew Halford on the head and body at Gateside Street in Dalmellington on February 24 this year.

Mr Halford was taken to Ayr Hospital to be treated for his injuries of bruising to his face and hands.

Pettigrew, of Park Crescent in Dalmellington, also robbed Mr Halford of goods.

He stated to his victim “I’m mugging you”, and demanded money and tobacco.

Mr Halford handed over a £5 note and quantity of tobacco.

Pettigrew and Paxton, of Castle Croft in Dalmellington, were both placed on a community payback order. They were tagged for three months, ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work, and will be supervised for 18 months.

A conduct requirement of their order also specified they were not to reoffend during the order.

A review was set for a later date.
