Man involved in high-rise police standoff charged with former girlfriend's murder

A man who was at the centre of a 12-hour standoff with police at a high-rise unit complex near the body of his former girlfriend has been charged with her murder.

June Oh Seo, 37, was not required to appear at the Hornsby Local Court.

He was charged with the murder of Hee Kyung Choi, 34, whose body was found in a Chatswood alleyway near the unit complex earlier this month.

Ms Choi's body was spotted by a pedestrian about 6:30am on October 9 and they alerted authorities.

Mr Seo was spotted soon after on a balcony roof, 27 floors up a high-rise building.

Police negotiated with him as he sat perched near the edge for 12 hours.

When he came down, police charged him with a domestic violence-related assault occasioning bodily harm.

According to court documents, police allege Mr Seo assaulted Ms Choi between 4:30am and 4:35am on October 9.

Police allege Mr Seo murdered Ms Choi between 4:30 and 6:00am that same morning.

He will reappear via video link at the Central Local Court on December 19.
