Man interviewed by Emma Caldwell murder cops admits attacking and stalking ex-partner

A man interviewed by police investigating the murder of sex worker Emma Caldwell has admitted attacking his former partner and stalking her.

Iain Packer was questioned six times as a potential witness over the death of Emma, 27, whose body was found in a Lanarkshire woodland in 2005.

He has admitted being a client of hers and said they had sex on 10 or 11 occasions.

In an interview with BBC1’s Disclosure programme last year, he denied being responsible for Emma’s murder and said he had never hurt a woman in his life.

Packer, 47, has now appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court and pled guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend Zadene Bolton by pushing her on to a bed, placing his hands around her throat and restricting her breathing to her injury and the danger of her life.

The attack took place at an address in Clarkston, Airdrie, between November 1 and November 30, 2018.

Packer, of Bailleston, Glasgow, further admitted stalking Zadene in February last year by repeatedly sending her photographs and messages on social media. He also repeatedly made sexual remarks to her and requested sexual intercourse with her as well as repeatedly suggesting she resume their relationship.

Packer also pled guilty to breaching a court order not to approach or contact Zadene by repeatedly sending her messages on social media in March and April last year.

His not guilty pleas to further charges that he assaulted his ex by punching her on the face in May 2018, and that he sent her indecent messages, were accepted by prosecutors.

Sheriff Morag Shankland deferred sentence on Packer until next month for background reports.
