Man injured in acid attack at train station

A man was taken to hospital after being injured in an acid attack at a railway station.

Police were called to reports of the incident at Wigan North Western station shortly after 10am on Friday (October 1).

Officers say an 'acid like substance' had been thrown at a 23-year-old man.

He was taken to hospital with what are described as minor injuries.

No arrests have been made so far.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly after 10am on Friday 1 October 2021, police were called to reports of an assault at Wigan North Western Train Station

"Emergency services attended and enquiries established that an acid like substance was thrown at a 23-year-old man.

"The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"Officers believe that this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
