Man in wheelchair dies after being hit by lorry on busy Scots road as police launch probe

A man in a wheelchair has died after he was struck by a lorry on a busy Ayrshire road.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A76 Castle, in New Cumnock, at around 3.10pm on Thursday.

The 36-year-old was tragically pronounced dead at the scene with officers closing down the road for around five hours to allow for investigation work.

The man’s next of kin have been informed of the tragic incident while police enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.

Sergeant Craig Beaver of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries are continuing into the full circumstances surrounding the crash and the road was closed for around five hours whilst collision investigation was carried out.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1939 of 14 October.”
