Man in Wetherspoons was sent £700 of drinks by friends after he went in for a quick pint at 11am

The Wetherspoons app is a handy tool if you're short of a few quid and have some kind mates.

It's not unusual for someone to send out a tweet, with their table number, requesting a follower or friend sends a drink to their table.

It's almost become a bit of a game, to try to bag a freebie or two.

What is unusual, however, is getting more than £700-worth of booze sent to your table.

And, incredibly, that's what happened to one Spoons' customer in Wales.

Posting on Twitter, Karl Phillips, otherwise known as 'The Captain', revealed he was heading for a pint in The Gold Cape Wetherspoons pub in Mold.

This was at 10.40am on Saturday, January 11.

Not long after, one of his followers asked him which table was sitting at, to which he replied '54'.

The Manchester Evening News reported that Following Karl's admission, orders quickly started to rack up for him, and he couldn't quite believe it.

Clearly shocked by the influx of booze, at 11.14am Karl tweeted on his account @bootlegger1974: "Well f*** dis s*** Jesus wept who keeps sending me drinks they piling up like f*** lads."

At 11.36am, he added: "Well come on lads pack it in I'm leaving in a minute weatherspoins [sic] have taken over 700 quid worth of orders."

After five pints and a brandy, he couldn't take too much more - and tried to strike up a deal with management to get some of the cash donated to charity. On Twitter, he continued: "Top wind up lads looks like it's going to make a few bob for charity (providing head office clear it)."

Several pints down, at 2.57pm Karl tweeted "It’s getting tasty now lads," sharing a picture of himself drinking a pint with a fellow pub reveller.

Clearly, things then got a little bit out of hand, as at 1.30am, Karl tweeted: "Bunch of f***ers I've just woke up f*** me I was in hell of a mess cheers."

Sounds like Karl had a fantastic day.
