Man in uniform poignantly kneels by Joe Biden's son's grave as he becomes president

A poignant image shows a uniformed man kneeling by Beau Biden's grave as his father was sworn in as president.

As Joe Biden was making his inauguration speech, journalist Patricia Talorico was driving by Beau's grave at the Catholic church St. Joseph in Greenville, Delaware.

Writing for the Delaware Journal Ms Talorico described the emotional scene she saw, while revealing she had moved in similar circles to Beau and 'their paths had crossed a few times'.

Ms Talorico wrote in a first person piece: "I saw a lone person in a blue uniform kneeling at Beau's grave.

"No one else was around on this cold, windy afternoon except for a few people doing outside work at the cemetery.

"In my car, I had the radio tuned to CNN. Joe Biden was being sworn in as president and was about to begin his address."

She said the person in uniform bowed their head and clasped their hands and told how the image brought a tear to her eyes.

The journalist didn't interrupt the "poignant" moment but took some photographs from a distance.

She said she listened to the end of Biden's speech.

Wanting to be respectful, she then drove away.

Joe's first born son, Beau arrived in 1969.

He studied at the University of Pennsylvania before taking a job as a law clerk for a judge in New Hampshire.

In 1995 he became a federal prosecutor with the US justice department, a job he held until 2002.

He has volunteered for an assignment training judges and prosecutors in post-war Kosovo.

He also served a year-long deployment in Iraq and was awarded a Bronze Star.

Beau married Hallie Olivere in 2002 and the couple went on to welcome two children - Natalie in 2004 and Robert in 2006.

Just four years after his son was born, Beau suffered a minor stroke.

In 2013 he was diagnosed with brain cancer but was given the all-clear after surgery.

But in 2015, Beau Biden tragically passed away from brain cancer.
