Police officers had been called to the property over a possible disturbance.

WA Police are investigating a police shooting in Perth's southern suburbs on Sunday afternoon after an officer shot a man in the arm.

An ambulance was called to the scene at the home in Waikiki and the man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

The hospital has said he was in a stable condition.

In a statement, police said officers were called to the Mends Way residence about 2:45pm in relation to a possible disturbance.

The police statement said: "While responding to the situation, a police firearm was discharged and a man received gunshot wounds to one of his arms."

There was no indication from police that the man had a weapon.

The Major Crime Division and Internal Affairs Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police remained at the scene on Sunday night.
