Man in 'slight shock' as car bursts into flames on M57

A man is in 'slight shock' after his car burst into flames whilst travelling on the M57.

Emergency services were called to the M57 southbound at Prescot at around 5.11pm on Friday, November 26, following reports of a car fire.

When two Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service engines arrived at the scene at 5.24pm the car was already well alight.

Once they established the driver of the car was out of the vehicle firefighters got to work putting out the fire.

They extinguished the fire 'quickly' with high powered hose reel jets and one firefighter used breathing apparatus.

The driver of the car has no injuries but was said to be 'in slight shock'. North West Ambulance Service were not in attendance at the incident.

Merseyside Police closed the motorway whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.

The fire was extinguished at 5.35pm but traffic in the area is still heavy.
