A man is in a 'serious condition' in hospital after a fight broke out in a Radcliffe street.

Police were called to reports of the brawl in Lever Street at about 11.40pm on Friday (October 22).

During the fight, officers say a 29-year-old man was assaulted.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

No arrests have been made.

A cordon was in place at the junction of Lever Street and Lowe Street following the incident.

The road reopened on Saturday morning, but several spots of blood could be seen in the road.

One woman who lives close to the scene said she was preparing to go to bed when she heard 'raised voices arguing' outside.

"I thought it was someone who had been in the pub and had too much to drink," she said.

"I only noticed the police tape this morning. A policeman came round and told us someone had been badly injured.

"There have been a few year scuffles over the years. It's just so sad that people can't go out without doing things like this."

Chelsea Bradshaw, who lives in Lever Street, said she woke up to the sound of 'screaming and shouting'.

"I could hear someone saying 'leave it, get in the car'," she explained.

"I ignored it and went back to sleep. It's not unusual for something like that to happen on this street."
