Man in 'serious condition' in hospital after crash on East Lancs Road

A man is in a 'serious condition' in hospital following a crash on the East Lancs Road.

Emergency services were called to reports of a vehicle smashing into a lamp post, at the junction with Higher Green Lane, in Astley, shortly before 3pm.

The road was closed in both directions following the collision.

The man was taken to Salford Royal Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

He remains in a serious condition, say police.

An air ambulance was spotted landing near to the scene shortly after the crash.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Just before 3pm today, officers were called to a report of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle on East Lancashire Road.

"Emergency services attended and a man was taken to hospital in serious condition where he remains.

"Enquiries are on-going."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service added: "The fire service was called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a lamp post.

"Upon arrival, an adult male was being treated by paramedics and an ambulance was on scene.

"The individual was conveyed to Salford Royal Hospital."
