Man in serious condition after falling from bridge at Heaton Park tram station

A man remains in hospital in a serious condition after falling from a bridge near the Heaton Park tram station.

Police were called to the Metrolink stop just off Bury Old Road in Prestwich at around 8pm on Monday (May 3).

Officers received a report of a concern for safety.

A 47-year-old man had fallen from a bridge and suffered serious injuries.

He was rushed to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Whittaker Lane was closed from Ogden Street to Bury Old Road for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Multiple police and ambulance vehicles were called to the scene.

In a statement, GMP said: “Police were called to Heaton Park Metrolink Stop, Bury Old Road at around 8.00pm on 3 May 2021 following a report of a concern for safety.

“A 47-year-old man had fallen from a bridge and sustained serious injuries.

“He was transferred to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.”
