Man in serious condition after Edinburgh 'stabbing' - with passing doctor running to give first aid

A man is currently in a 'serious condition' in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after he was allegedly stabbed in a fight that took place in a lane that runs between Glen Street and Panmure Place in Tollcross, close to the Meadows.

People who were nearby during the incident took to social news site Reddit to discuss what happened.

One person said that a passing doctor "somehow realised something was awry and stopped to provide aid minutes after."

They went on to say they were keen to hear how the casualty was doing.

Another witness said: "I've been looking all over for news on this since Sunday and this post is the only thing I've found. I found the poor guy after seeing the attackers running out from the alley when walking back from shopping with my partner.

"One other man was with me and quickly ran for first aid and the police while I called the ambulance. Last I heard from the police is that the guy is in a stable condition, but I'd appreciate any news at all.

"We're pretty worried that it could happen on our doorstep."

The good samaritans were praised by another commenter, who said: "A serious 'good job' to those who stepped in and got involved prior to the emergency services arriving, you are all genuinely good people."

The lane at Panmure Place was subsequently cordoned off by forensic officers.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:

"About 6.45pm on Sunday, 13 September, 2020, police and emergency services were called after a 34-year-old man was seriously injured during an altercation in Panmure Place, Edinburgh. He was taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he is detained in a serious condition. Enquiries are ongoing."
