Man in serious condition after car flips on roof in horror crash

A man was rushed to hospital after a car smashed into a parked vehicle and flipped on its roof in a horror crash.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene on Woodchurch Road in Birkenhead shortly after 11am on Monday.

It was reported that a white Vauxhall Corsa crashed into a Silver Volvo which was parked on the street and ended up upside down.

A man in his 70s was taken to Aintree University Hospital with serious injuries to his chest.

Road closures were put in place on Woodchurch Road, from the junction of Arno Road to the junction of Highgreen Road.

The road has since been reopened.

Photos show officers at the scene and the vehicle being recovered at around 1.30pm.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We sent a rapid response vehicle, ambulance and a senior clinician to the scene at 11.11am.

"We've taken one person to Aintree University Hospital - a male in his 70's, in a serious way.

"It looks to be injuries to the chest area. It looks to be quite serious."

A spokesperson from the fire service said: "Firefighters were called to Woodchurch Road, Birkenhead, on Monday, November 2.

"Crews were alerted at 11.15am and on scene at 11.18am. Two fire engines attended as well as the search and rescue appliance.

"On arrival crews found one vehicle on its roof following a collision with a stationary vehicle. One person was still inside the vehicle.

"Firefighters and paramedics from North West Ambulance Service helped the person out of the vehicle. They were taken to hospital for further assessment.

"Merseyside Police were also in attendance. Fire crews left the scene at 11.59am."
