)A 39-year-old man is in a serious condition at the Townsville University Hospital after he was stabbed during an alleged group attack in a shopping centre car park.
Emergency services were called to the Sunland Plaza car park in Kirwan around 12:20pm.
A police spokesperson said the man was sitting in his car outside the centre when another car with four men inside parked beside him.
The men allegedly got out of their car and opened the other man's car door.
Police said the 39-year-old then sustained several stab wounds, some to his chest.
Police said officers did not know what the man had been stabbed with, saying the four men fled the scene.
Paramedics took the 39-year-old to the hospital, where he is in a serious condition.
A crime scene has been declared at the car park and police are investigating the incident.
However, a police spokesperson said the man and alleged group were believed to be known to each other.
Police have confirmed that four men were speaking with officers about the alleged attack.
A witness said the man had bought a sandwich from a nearby store before the alleged attack.
Shop attendant David Maley said he saw another car pull up next to the 39-year-old man's parked car and a "big punch-up" had started.
Mr Maley said he had not seen the alleged stabbing.
"There were hands and arms going everywhere," he said.
"It was pretty full-on — for that to happen just in the middle of the day."
