Man in Sefton Park seen putting birds into plastic bags 'to sell'

A man was caught putting animals into plastic bags in Sefton Park yesterday.

Police were called to the park, near to the boat lake, after reports of a man 'acting suspiciously' at around 5.50pm on Tuesday, July 27.

When officers arrived it was reported that the man was putting birds from the lake into plastic bags.

A witness on Twitter posted: "I'd passed this b****** on the stepping stones, he was carrying a seagull in a plastic bag and talking about selling it.

"Not the first time he had been cautioned. How hard is it to leave well alone?"

Officers confirmed that a man was issued with a warning yesterday after the incident was reported to them.

After getting advice from RSPCA, police said the birds were released back into the wild and were 'safe and well.'

A Merseyside police spokesperson told the ECHO : "At around 5.50pm yesterday (Tuesday 27 th July) we received a report of a man acting suspiciously near Sefton Park boating lake.

"It was reported that the man was putting birds from the lake into plastic bags.

"Citywatch officers attended and issued the man with a warning for Wildlife Interference.

"Following advice from the RSPCA the animals were released safe and well."
