Man in paramedic outfit robs local shop at knife-point

A man dressed as a paramedic has reportedly robbed a shop at knifepoint.

According to South Wales Police, the man entered G Davies Newsagents on Roberts Avenue in Penydarren, Merthyr Tydfil, brandishing a knife.

He then allegedly ordered the shopkeeper to hand over money from the till before making off from the shop in the direction of Hillcrest Avenue.

Detectives for South Wales Police are asking for help to find the man.

He is described as being white, between 35 and 45, and approximately six feet tall with an average build.

He was wearing what is believed to be an old-style paramedic’s jacket at the time of the incident, together with a black balaclava, black trousers and black boots.

Detective Inspector Matt Hicks said: “Armed robberies are very rare in this area - nobody apart from the shopkeeper was inside and thankfully nobody was injured during the incident. We are doing everything we can to identify and arrest the man involved.

“We do believe he is likely to be from the area and we urge anybody who believes they know who was responsible or who may have seen somebody acting suspicious to make contact.

“We have increased the policing presence in the area to reassure residents.”

Anybody with information is urged to contact South Wales Police via 101 and provide reference *428661. You can also send a message on social media or email SWP101@south-wales.police.uk.
