Man in M57 bridge fall recovering in hospital after landing on grass

A man falling from a bridge on the M57 this morning sparked a major response from emergency services.

The man is reported to have been injured as he fell from the motorway bridge on Huyton Lane onto a grass verge next to the carriageway.

This evening, there has been no further update released on the man's condition, but earlier on today, police said it's not thought that his injuries are life threating.

Police and paramedics were called to the motorway around 6.25am today after concerns for the safety of a man on the bridge.

The motorway was closed in both directions between Junctions 1 and 2, but a short time later it was reported the man had fallen from the bridge and taken to hospital.

They said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in attendance on the M57 today (Saturday 13 June).

"At around 6.25am we received a report of a concern for safety of a man on a motorway bridge on Huyton Lane.

"It was reported a short time later that he had fallen from the bridge onto a grass verge next to the northbound carriageway of the M57.

"He was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

"Road closures in place while emergency services dealt with the incident have now been lifted.".
