Man in late 40s charged with robbing Walkinstown shop after attempting escape on push bike

A man in his late 40s has been charged with the robbery of a shop in Walkinstown after taking cash at knifepoint and escaping on a push bike.

The man threatened staff in a shop on Walkinstown Avenue with a knife and took cash from the cash register before attempting to run away on a pedal bicycle yesterday evening.

Luckily, Gardai from Crumlin Garda Station caught the culprit soon after and recovered the stolen cash.

The Garda statement read: A man in his late 40s has been arrested and charged following the robbery of a shop that occurred on Saturday 18th April 2020 at Walkinstown Avenue, Walkinstown, Dublin 12.

At approximately 4.55pm, a man entered the shop and threatened staff with a knife. A quantity of cash was taken from the cash register and the man fled the scene on a pedal cycle.

The man was arrested a short distance away and detained at Crumlin Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. The cash taken was recovered.

He has since been charged in connection with this incident and will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, tomorrow morning Monday 20th April 2020.
