Man in John Hunter Hospital after quad bike rolls near Singleton

A man has been taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition after he rolled a quad bike near Singleton on Tuesday night.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to McDougals Hill just before 8pm, where they found a 28-year-old man with back injuries.

He was treated at the scene and air-lifted to John Hunter Hospital.

It came after the chopper crew was called to Salamander Bay earlier in the day following a report of a man with a stab wound to his leg.

The 18-year-old reportedly suffered the injury to his thigh while opening a bag of fish food.

He was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Meanwhile the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service has launched a fundraising appeal ahead of summer - typically the busiest time of year for the emergency agency.

In a statement this week, the service said COVID-19 had impacted its finances "significantly".

"As COVID restrictions ease, we anticipate that there will be an even greater demand for our services this summer, with people who have endured lockdown and border restrictions making the most of their new-found freedom," CEO Richard Jones said.

"Northern NSW has many attractions that will draw visitors into our region, plus we service our normal population of over 1.5 million people. We know that despite road safety messages and reminders for people to travel and stay safe, our crews will be called upon regularly across summer to provide life saving services to those in need.

"With our normal fundraising and support activities cancelled during 2020, this appeal is important for us to ensure we can continue to respond 24-7 across our service area and we are confident that our many communities, businesses and supporters will rally behind the service during this time."

Donations can be made at the Westpac Rescue Helicopter website.
