Man in hospital with serious injuries as lorry crashes into central reservation on M1

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a lorry crashed into the central reservation on the M1.

Police are in attendance on the motorway between junctions 24 and 25 near Castle Donington after reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a lorry and the central reservation of the motorway on Tuesday, June 2.

The M1 northbound and M1 southbound lanes between Junction 24 and 25 are closed while officers work to establish the circumstances of the crash.

Inspector Paul Hennessy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “No one else is thought to have been injured in the collision and we are now hard working to establish the circumstances around this incident, the road will remain closed whilst we carry out these critical enquiries."

Large tailbacks were forming on the motorway and a diversion was set up by traffic officers.

Highways England tweeted: "M1 southbound J25 to J24A is closed after a serious accident.

"Northbound J24A to J25 is also currently stopped in all lanes.

"Please consider an alternate route and plan for heavy traffic. Thank you for your patience."
