Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after street stabbing in Stockport

A man has been seriously injured after a stabbing in Stockport.

Police say they were called to Oak Grove in Cheadle to reports of a stabbing at around 6.45am on Monday (February 24).

A 46-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries and he is in a stable condition, Greater Manchester Police said.

A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A witness is said to have witnessed the attack, which allegedly happened at the end of the cul-de-sac off Oak Road.

Part of the road is taped off and forensic officers in white suits could be seen going in and out of a property on the street, as well as taking photographs of the scene.

In a statement GMP said: "At around 6.45am on Monday 24 February 2020 police were called to a report of a stabbing on Oak Grove in Cheadle.

"A 46-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

"A police cordon is currently in place as officers continue their investigations.

"A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder."

Officers are asking any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

They are asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 445 of 24/02/2020.
