Man in hospital with serious injuries after self-harm incident in Leeds Asda

Police have confirmed that a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a self-harm incident in an Asda supermarket in Leeds. 

Officers were called to the Killingbeck Asda in east Leeds just before 6am after reports that a man was injured inside the store.

On arrival the man was found to have serious injuries and was immediately taken to hospital. At this stage his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Officers were forced to close the store for several hours this morning. Police have also confirmed that they are not treating this incident as an assault.

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said:

"At 5.57am today police were called to a report of an injured man at Asda, in Killingbeck Drive, Leeds.

"The man was taken to hospital with injuries that are serious but are not believed to be life threatening.

"Officers are satisfied this has been a self-harm incident with no other person involved and there are no suspicious circumstances.

"The scene is now being released to allow normal business to resume at the store."
