Man in hospital with serious injuries after being knocked over by a car in Gateshead

A man is in a serious but stable condition after being knocked over by a car in Felling

The pedestrian was taken to the RVI's A&E with head injuries following the collision on Sunderland Road at around 6am on Thursday.

Police remained at the scene until almost 10am carrying out investigation works and a diversion was in place.

Officers are also asking for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and help them with their enquires.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that they had sent a double-crewed ambulance, a Hazardous Area Response Team and a rapid response vehicle to the scene.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly before 6.10am today (Thursday), police received a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on Sunderland Road, Felling.

"It was reported that a Vauxhall Vectra had struck the male pedestrian who was then taken to hospital with serious injuries; however, they are not thought to be life-threatening.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact police via 101 and quote reference 120 10/10/19."
