Man in hospital after robbers armed with crowbar and hammer burst into his home and smash him over head

Three burglars armed with a crowbar and hammer hit a man over the head before fleeing with jewellery.

The trio broke into a house on Belmont Road, in Gatley, at around 9.20pm on Monday, April 13.

They demanded cash and valuables, before attacking a man in his 40s.

The three men then fled on foot with a number of jewellery items.

The victim was taken to hospital with a head injury.

He remains in hospital, but is in a stable condition.

Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone with further information to come forward.

The three men were all wearing dark clothing, but no further descriptions have been given by police.

Detective Constable Ed Hooley of GMP’s Stockport District said: “Thankfully the man who was attacked is doing well in hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery while we continue to investigate this crime.

“While we have limited descriptions of the offenders, this occurred on a busy residential street.

“Given current circumstances, there will likely have been a number of people in the area who were at home nearby and may have noticed what was going on.

“Did you see anything unusual in the area at the time? If so, please get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anyone who has any information about the robbery should call police on 0161 856 9616 quoting incident number 2771 of 13/04/2020.

Details can also be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
