Man in hospital after gunman opens fire on Manchester street - the day after shooting less than half a mile away

A man is in hospital after a gunman opened fire in Miles Platting - the day after reports of a shooting less than half a mile away.

Police are investigating the two incidents, which are not believed to be linked.

Officers were called at around 8.40pm on Sunday night (March 16), after a man was shot in the leg on Oldham Road.

The 32-year-old was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Greater Manchester Police launched an investigation. No arrests have been made.

A GMP statement read: "At around 8.40pm on Sunday, March 15, 2020, police were called to reports of a firearms discharge on Oldham Road, Manchester.

"Officers attended and found a 32-year-old man with a leg injury.

"He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

"An investigation is underway.

"No arrests have been made."

At around 11.55pm on Friday (March 13), police were called to 'a report of a firearms discharge' on Winstanley Road - around the corner from Oldham Road.

No one was injured, GMP said.

Police sealed off a road as an investigation was launched.

Officers remained at the scene on Saturday morning.

On Sunday morning, officers were seen going in and out of a house on Farnborough Road, off Winstanley Road.

Police did not reveal the reason for the search, but referred the Manchester Evening News to their statement regarding the shooting on Friday night.

GMP has not confirmed whether arrests have been made in relation to the Winstanley Road incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 1146 - quoting incident number 3374 of March 13 for the Winstanley Road incident on Friday; and incident number 2923 of March 15 for the Oldham Road incident on Sunday.
