Man in hospital after falling from M57 bridge

Police have today confirmed that a man who fell from a motorway bridge is recovering in hospital.

The motorway was closed in both directions between junctions one and two on Sunday morning after police received a report of a concern for safety of a man.

A short time later it was reported that the man had fallen from the bridge onto a grass verge next to the northbound carriageway.

He was taken to hospital with injuries which were not believed to be life threatening.

In an update today, a spokesperson from Merseyside Police confirmed that the man is in a stable condition in hospital.

In a previous statement police said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in attendance on the M57 today (Saturday 13 June).

"At around 6.25am we received a report of a concern for safety of a man on a motorway bridge on Huyton Lane.

"It was reported a short time later that he had fallen from the bridge onto a grass verge next to the northbound carriageway of the M57.

"He was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

"Road closures in place while emergency services dealt with the incident have now been lifted."
